SKY JUMP

topofsky02.jpgLate in 2001 TRS carried out the installation of the Sky Jump at Auckland's Sky Tower. This was a very interesting project in that the work required several lifts up the outside of the Sky Tower, something that had never been done before. We worked closely with Mainzeal Construction and Beca Carter Hollings & Ferner, consulting engineers, on the design of a temporary lifting gib, which TRS fabricated and then installed.
topofsky01_1.jpgVery early on the morning of 11 November, our team began the first of the lifts that would see over 2.5 tonnes of equipment installed by the end of the day. Sixteen hours later, the last of the bolts was inserted and we all relaxed after a long, successful, incident free day.

topofsky03.jpgThe Sky Jump has become one of Auckland's major adventure tourist attractions, with many thousands of people having now leapt from the platform and we at TRS are proud to have been associated with the project. www.skyjump.co.nz

HOROKIWI RADIO MAST REFURBISHMENT
mast_heli.jpgTRS was requested to carry out a detailed inspection of RADIOWORKS' Horokiwi radio mast in the Hutt Valley, Wellington.
Our inspection highlighted a number of urgent maintenance items, especially with the mast's "Top Hat".

We were awarded the project to refurbish the mast with a strict requirement for minimum transmission breaks. To meet this request all work was carried out with the mast on air, albeit at reduced power. The most challenging aspect was flying off and replacing the "Top Hat" by helicopter, both of which required very still weather conditions, something which is very hard to come by in Wellington. HELILINK assisted us with this aspect of the project.

SKY TOWER'S VERTIGO
radiation1.jpgWe were heavily involved in the former climb up Sky Tower (which was known as "Vertigo"). One of the first and major problems was to reduce the radiation levels within the tower itself. We worked closely with Auckland University's Engineering Department to develop systems, unique in the world, to achieve these reduced levels. This involved weeks of working in radiation suits through the peak of summer; just like being in a personal sauna. We also installed a new platform level inside the tower, moved antenna systems and installed all the AC and video requirements.
